Designed by Sébastien Schmidt in 2002, Jean Psarofaghis’ Psaros 40, Syz & Co, is one of the emblematic sailing boats of Lake Geneva. She has won the Bol d’Or Mirabaud and the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire four times.
Twenty years later, her joints are getting a little creaky. A major overhaul was therefore carried out this winter by the Psaros shipyard. “We approached this project with two main objectives,” explains Jean Psarofaghis. ” Firstly, to improve performance and optimize the boat. But it’s also about continuing the adventure, which is both technical and human, since we are sailing this boat with a crew of friends, some of whom have been on board since day one. ”
Specifically, the boat has been lengthened from 12m40 to 14m20 to be at the maximum allowed by ACVL rules. The front of the boat has been cut to four meters and replaced by a new, longer bow. All reinforcements, the deck and fittings were redone while a new keel will increase the draft from 3 to 3.6 meters. Lastly, the displacement of the boat has been reduced by more than half ton.
This major refit of the Psaros 40 will significantly improve its performance and, who knows, enable it to win the Bol d’Or Mirabaud again, even if its direct competitor, the Libera Raffica, should remain a tough competitor in medium wind conditions.
The Psaros 40 crew will be composed of eight members in light winds and ten if there is wind. Jean Psarofaghis will once again be at the helm of his boat, which we will follow very closely!
